Reframing Wellness: The Bigelsen Perspective

Has navigating yeast overgrowth, SIBO, parasites, endless supplement protocols, and expensive lab testing started to feel like a never-ending cycle?

For many people searching for answers, the wellness journey can become increasingly complex — filled with restrictive diets, conflicting advice, and temporary solutions that never seem to address the bigger picture.

But what if healing begins not with chasing symptoms, but by understanding how the body’s self-regulatory systems actually work?

In this week’s NTA AU NZ Vodcast, I sit down with Adam and Josh Bigelsen to explore a very different perspective on health — one rooted in the body’s innate intelligence, adaptability, and capacity for restoration.

Looking Beyond Symptoms

Adam and Josh Bigelsen, founders of the Bigelsen Academy, are dedicated to empowering individuals to take an active role in their health journey. Their philosophy challenges the conventional symptom-focused model of wellness and instead encourages a deeper exploration of the underlying patterns occurring within the body.

At the heart of The Bigelsen Perspective is the belief that true wellness extends far beyond simply the absence of disease. Health encompasses physical, emotional, and social well-being, while the body is continuously working to adapt, regulate, and maintain balance.

Rather than viewing symptoms as isolated problems to suppress, Adam and Josh discuss how the body may be expressing unresolved stagnation, stress, or imbalance — and how identifying these patterns can create opportunities for meaningful healing.

Understanding the Body’s Self-Regulatory Intelligence

One of the key concepts explored in this conversation is the idea that disease cannot exist without some form of stagnation or blockage within the system.

The Bigelsen approach suggests that when circulation, communication, or energetic flow becomes impaired, the body adapts in ways that may eventually manifest as symptoms. By addressing these deeper imbalances and supporting the body’s natural regulatory mechanisms, healing can occur from the inside out.

This perspective invites us to rethink many of the chronic wellness challenges commonly seen today — from digestive dysfunction and chronic fatigue to inflammatory conditions and recurring infections.

Instead of asking:

“What supplement should be taken next?”

The conversation shifts toward:

“What might the body be trying to communicate?”

Continuing the Legacy of Dr. Harvey Bigelsen

The work of Adam and Josh Bigelsen is deeply inspired by the pioneering contributions of Dr. Harvey Bigelsen.

Dr. Bigelsen was one of the earliest physicians in the United States to study live blood under a microscope and spent more than four decades advancing the field of holistic health and alternative medicine. He founded the American Holistic Medical Association and played an influential role in helping shape legislation recognising homeopathic medical practices.

Through decades of clinical experience, Dr. Bigelsen developed a unique framework for understanding how the body adapts to stress, trauma, and environmental influences — a legacy Adam and Josh continue to share through education and practical wellness resources.

Empowering Individuals Through Education

Today, the Bigelsen Academy provides educational tools, courses, and resources designed to help individuals better understand their bodies and reconnect with their own healing capacity.

Rather than promoting quick fixes, the Academy encourages curiosity, self-awareness, and a broader understanding of how lifestyle, emotions, environment, and physiology interact to influence health.

The overarching message is one of empowerment:

The body is adaptive, intelligent, and constantly communicating.
